Some of you know that I have a daughter with a really rare genetic disorder called Smith-Magenis Syndrome. She's been featured in some of the new new research papers that have come out about SMS, when they found she has a completely unique variation of the SMS genetic glitch. Because of that I'm trying to raise money to fly cross country to the conference put on by PRISMS this year, so that I can meet and talk with many of the doctors who have had their eye on her genes :)

And since I hate asking for handouts, if you feel moved to donate to the trip, I will make you some Imp Holders, in whatever colours you'd like. Thanks, everybuggy.

No True. Such Permit. Very Assassins. Wow. [userpic]

flameelf suggested I pimp this here, so I'm pimpin' it.

I have a ton of stuff up on eBay.

Short story is that I'm auctioning off a ton of donated goods to benefit the Bailey Carnivore Fund, which is where Defenders of Wildlife are getting their money to prevent wholesale slaughter of wolves in the Northern Rockies now that several states have/are going to remove them from the endangered list.

For more information about the whole shebang, check out all my tagged entries on the subject. If you are at all interested in wolves or predator preservation, you might want to check those out and familiarize yourself with what's going on.

That box is up for auction, and similar boxes in different colors will be going up each week. More information on the boxes is at my website, and you can see pictures there of the one that's going up next week!

The current round of goodies is only going to be up for another day, then it's all shipping out and the new round of auctions, including more BPAL and another box, will go up.

Thank you guys for looking, and bidding, and for the support! The bidding's been nice and lively. Couldn't do it without you!

(Again, crossposted, sorry if you run into this a couple times.)

BPALtruism Care Packages for the Near and Dear!!

Most things will remain the same for awhile, but the BPALtruism Mods are discussing plans on how to share the fun with everyone else and to eventually phase out one person doing all the mailing.  To that end, please read down to the One-Time Mailer information.  Collection of donations will remain centralised for right now.  I will also only be posting these notices once a month.

On donations.  Please send things YOU would like to receive--BPAL imps, BPAL converted into rollerballs or solid perfumes, LUSH and other luxury bath and body item samples, small bottles of scented lotions, scented wax tarts, tea candles, etc.  Also, bags of individually-wrapped chocolates or candies would be nice, because a bag can be broken up among more than a few BPALtruism Care Packages.  Other good candies, teas--you know what I'm looking for.  Things you'd naturally include as freebies to other BPALers you swap or buy/sell with.  [I pack the boxes up en masse beforehand, so I never know precisely what is going to whom.]

Donations are also being taken for postage costs.  Please use the bpalcentral@yahoo.com address to ask for details on how to donate.

If you are willing to be a One-Time Mailer of a BPALtruism Care Package, please send notice of your intent to the same email address.  I'm going to be making a list of those willing to do this later in the year.

IF YOU ARE MAKING HANDMADE ITEMS like jewellery, imp boxes, etc., please include small cards/tags for every item you send, so that the receivers may know who the artisans are that made their wonderful things.

Please be aware that some people have allergies that can be triggered by common allergens.  If you live in a smoking household, you might want to be sure your items are nowhere near where you smoke.

To Donate:  email me at bpalcentral@yahoo.com and tell me what you're sending.  I'll send you my snailmail address and you can mail it out, and I'll confirm what I got and send you a receipt.  Please be sure to let me know your LJ Name within your donation package, as well as your email address if it is not immediately apparent by your real name/LJ Name.  It's hard to match "Jane Doe" to hotbpalchik at email dot com

This is how you get someone on the list:

You need to be a member of BPALAnonymous.  It is where the Care Package Program started and we're sticking to that membership.  So does the person you nominate to receive a Care Package.  You should email this information about your friend:

Her LJ Name

Her Name and Snailmail Address

Her Email Address

Send that information to bpalcentral@yahoo.com   I'll put them on the list and send out the boxes.

We go on the honour system and presume if you nominate someone to the list, they need it.  We expect everyone to be adult enough not to abuse this system.  The person should be involved in this particular community, please; we're all friends within BPALAnon.

New Policy:  We ask you only nominate one person at a time, to give others a chance to nominate someone.  We also ask that if you make multiple nominations that you should DONATE to the Care Package Program.  It's not fair to everyone else if you're making more than your share of the nominations and you're not giving anything to support the Care Package Program.

I will email the person who nominated someone about to receive a BPALtruism Care Package and let them know the person they nominated is about to get our gifts.

Please, limit yourself to one nomination at a time.  Our membership is large and we want to be both caring and fair to everyone.

IF YOU RECEIVE A PACKAGE, we are now asking that you must go on BPALAnonymous and let everyone know you received one.  However, we ask you NOT give a detailled listing of what you received.  Everyone's packages are essentially equivallent in value, but not everyone gets all the same things.  BPALtruism Care Packages  are reliant on donations and therefore what we have to send changes all the time, and we wouldn't want anyone to feel they should have gotten precisely what someone else received.

Please make a point to thank the community or at least mention you got your package--when we don't hear anything back from you, it appears the package never made it to you..

I'm part of an organization called the Camarilla. It's the official White-Wolf Fanclub, based on LARP (Live-Acting Role Play) and Tabletop games using the published materials of White Wolf...specifically the World of Darkness material. We're not just a bunch of RPers. The Camarilla is also known for going out into the local, national, and international community to do good works. I think it's my favorite part of being in the Cam!

I figured you fine people would be able to help me brainstorm some great charity organizations that my group can donate to. National organizations would be great, but I'm also interested in charities in Southern California in particular. For example, Children of the Night was supported during our 2005 International Convention, and I am planning to continue to support it.

So...ideas?

A little while back, I asked for your help for 2 friends of mine, L and J, who were facing unmerry holidays with no money to get their kids much of anything.

I am so happy to report that L and J have both had generous giftcards mysteriously arrive at their houses. Thank you so much, you guys. For all the occasional drama and swaplifting, this fandom still rocks the socks off any other. Much love!

BPALtruism Care Packages for the Near and Dear!!

While we took a break on putting out the posts, we've been shipping packages out continually.  After this week, no more packages will be shipped out until after the New Year, to avoid the mailing congestion during the Christmas season.

[I pack the boxes up en masse beforehand, so I never know precisely what is going to whom.]

http://pics.livejournal.com/beachbanshee/pic/00003dkd/This is Kenadie Jourdin-Bromley & her dad Court, she is a 3.5year old Primordial Dwarf from Sault Ste. Marie,  Canada. Kenadie is approx 27in tall and weighs 10.2lbs.  She will only grow to about 36inches total.   If you would like more info about this  beautiful little girl or you would like to make a donation to her trust please visit her  website at http://www.littlekenadie.com/

All donation made will go to defray the cost of travel to medical specialists , clothing modification and specialized household items as well as travel to the Little People of American Conferences yearly.  Thanks!

I learned about this family after watching a documentary on TLC.  I made contact with her Mom and we have been chatting online.  Kenadie will be having heart surgery in Jan.  The doctors are doing the surgery for free but the family must make the trip from Sault Ste Marie to Delaware.  I have had sales on the othe bpal communities but they were not well taken.  I only raised about $75 dollars.  Thru her website people can make direct contributions as well as learn about dwarfism.

Thanks for you consideration,

Karen

The BPAL Care Package Program is officially moving to bpaltruism.

I suggested Friday evening to the mods at bpalanonymous that the whole BPAL Care Package Program was more in keeping with the mission of THIS comm rather than BPALAnonymous. Today (Saturday), Shay [formerly shay_85, now altered] and I had a conversation and we both agreed I'd be bringing the Care Package Program under the auspices of THIS comm rather than BPALAnon, which is the sister-community to this one.

There was no acrimony or problem between Shay and I, although I have been removed as a mod in BPALAnon. The official "mods post" to BPALAnon hapens on Monday. Any other drama occurred later and was not 'real'. Truth will out.

My intention is to continue to serve the BPALAnon membership as I have been, posting calls for nominations and donations both here and BPALAnon.

If you have any questions, please post them here or email me at bpalcentral at yahoo dot com.

Nechtan :)
